Munken is a very popular day trip destination in Lofoten! Located in beautiful, alpine surroundings of the wildest part of Moskenesøya. The trail starts very close to the sea in Sørvågen and goes all the way up to 769 meters above sea level. Approximately the first mile of this hike is relatively easy. You will pass waterfalls, creeks, lakes, and have stunning mountain vistas. On the way up you will pass by the Munkebu hut which is a cabin operated by the Norwegian Trekking Association. The trail from Munkebu hut to Munken was easy to find, and climbed steeply to an upper valley cradling some large snowfields. From here the path continued ascending to Munken’s summit plateauBook an overnight stay at the Munkebu hut for the full experience. An overnight stay at the cabin gives you the possibility to experience the Lofoten mountains by night while staying cozy and warm inside the cabin.
The best times to visit this trail are May through September.
